Loose Brackets

What to Do if a Bracket Comes Loose

A loose bracket is not an emergency, but we do need to schedule a time to repair it.  If it is uncomfortable, you can place wax to keep the bracket in place.  Call the office during regular hours to schedule time for the repair.

You will be asked if the loose bracket is on one of the upper or lower front teeth, numbered 1, 2, or 3.  If the answer is yes, the repair appointment needed will be one 30 minute appointment to re-bond the bracket.

If the bracket is loose on any other tooth, numbered 4-7, two appointments will be needed.  The first appointment is to place separators and takes about 10 minutes.  Approximately one week after the separator appointment, a 30-minute repair appointment is needed to place a band on the tooth where the bracket came loose.  It is a more secure repair to place a band on a posterior tooth.

If it is close to the time of your regular adjustment appointment, we will try to combine the appointments when possible.  Repair appointments are done in the morning and early afternoon.
