Orthodontic insurance may or may not be part of your dental insurance. This benefit is paid as a percentage (usually at 50%) of the orthodontic fee up to a benefit maximum. Some insurance plans have a waiting period before the orthodontic benefit is effective.
Orthodontic insurance is paid out over the length of treatment, therefore, it is important to understand that some portion of the benefit may be unpaid if either insurance or employment changes during treatment.
If any changes in employment/insurance coverage occur during treatment, it is the responsibility of the subscriber to inform our office if a new claim needs to be submitted.
Some insurance plans pay for "work in progress", some do not. Please be aware that our financial relationship is with our responsible parties, not their respective insurance companies.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
The ability to plan flex dollars for orthodontics is ideal but requires sufficient time for evaluation in order to advise you of anticipated treatment. Please visit with us well in advance of your deadline for submitting flex amount so that we can provide you with the most accurate information.
All communication regarding flex reimbursement is between the member and the plan administrator. We cannot be involved with any submission, faxes, phone calls, etc.
Flex spending accounts may not reimburse when you pay in full for orthodontic treatment because they realize orthodontic services are provided over several months. Please verify reimbursement requirements with your FSA plan before paying in full.
Please be advised that some flex plans reimburse upon receipt of EOB (explanation of benefit) from your insurance. Orthodontic insurance pays monthly or quarterly throughout the months of treatment and does not coincide with your monthly payments; therefore your monthly payment will not correlate with an EOB.
