What to Expect at Your First Visit
- January 15, 2025
Welcome to the Lincoln Orthodontic Family! Your first visit is sure to be memorable because you have the opportunity to meet nearly everyone on our team. Starting orthodontic treatment may feel like a big step, so we are here to make the process as smooth, simple, and fun as possible! Our team of experts in Lincoln led by Dr. Emily Willett is ready to walk you through it all.
Meet Our Front Office Team
You’ll first be greeted by our friendly front office staff the moment you walk through the door. Kennedy and Maddie are the faces you will see first! They take on phone calls, scheduling, and so much more. After they check you in and make sure your new patient paperwork with insurance is all set, you’ll be ready for your first appointment. Our office manager, Sara, is also super helpful when clearing up any questions you might have!
Let’s Get to Know Each Other
Once you are all checked in, you’ll meet with one of our friendly treatment coordinators, Jordan or Amy, who will guide you through the process. The first thing they’ll do is take some comprehensive records. This quick step includes photographs and 3D X-rays, which will help us get a clear picture of your current smile. We’ll use these records for diagnostic purposes during your treatment and to educate you along the way.
During this time, we also want to get to know you, as well as any concerns or questions you might have about your smile or treatment options. Feel free to ask about anything. We set up this friendly low-stakes chat to help us understand your needs and develop the best treatment plan for you.
Connect with Dr. Willett
After these initial steps are completed, Dr. Willett will join you in one of our exam rooms. She’ll carefully review your records, including the X-rays and photos, and perform a quick intraoral exam to assess your current tooth positions and oral health.
Dr. Willett’s exam will depend on your age and treatment. For example, with children in the mixed definition stage (a combination of baby and adult teeth), Dr. Willett will chat with parents about whether orthodontic treatment is needed now or to consider it in the future. If needed in the future, a follow-up visit will likely be recommended in 6-12 months. Alternatively, if treatment is recommended, Dr. Willett will walk you through the “why” behind it using the photos and X-ray captured at check-in as visual aids.
Don’t worry, we’re always here to answer any questions you have. Dr. Willett loves making sure everyone understands what’s happening with their treatment and why it’s the best option!
Your Treatment Plan
Once the right treatment is determined for you, Jordan or Amy will review the plan with you in detail! By learning about the dos and don’ts of treatment, how to care for your appliances, and what foods to avoid, you’ll be ready to begin! We’ll also go over payment plans and insurance options – answering any financial questions you might have – to get you set up to start your treatment. Finally, we’ll schedule your next visit, which we detail in our next blog post.
Depending on what’s recommended, we may even be able to start your treatment the same day! Sometimes, it’s as simple as a quick digital scan to kickstart your orthodontic journey.
