What is involved in Lincoln Invisalign treatment?
The Invisalign clear aligner system aligns teeth and helps to improve oral health by using a series of clear, removable aligners. Invisalign has been proven to be just as effective as traditional braces at treating a lot of common orthodontic issues as long as you use the system as directed. At your initial consultation, we will use x-rays and digital impressions to create a precise 3D image of the teeth at your initial consultation. From this, we build a customized aligner that is specific to each patient’s smile. The trays are constructed of a smooth, comfortable material that fits firmly over the teeth. These trays are designed to be switched out every 1-2 weeks to keep up with the teeth as they move into their desired new positions.
What are the benefits of choosing Lincoln Invisalign treatment?
While the fact that invisible aligners are nearly invisible is one of the biggest benefits, another benefit is that you can take them off. Invisalign aligners are designed to be removed before eating or drinking anything other than water. This means you’ll never have to worry about food getting stuck in brackets or wires. You should also remove them before brushing and flossing. This makes it’s much easier to access your teeth and maintain a good oral hygiene routine. Keeping your teeth clean and healthy is especially important for orthodontic patients.
Since you can remove your clear aligners, you can avoid any food restriction. Since food restrictions are often the biggest learning curve with traditional braces, so this can make your orthodontic experience much more comfortable. With Invisalign, you don’t have to forego any of your favorite foods while you’re working on a straighter smile! Aligners do need to be removed before all meals in order to avoid staining. They should also be cleaned and rinsed out with warm water at least once or twice a day.
Another way Invisalign aligners can make your experience more pleasant is the lack of wires, meaning the lack of irritation in your mouth. The aligners are made out of smooth plastic, so there’s nothing to poke your mouth. You also won’t have to come in for adjustment appointments. Invisalign wearers are still expected to attend follow-up visits about every 6-8 weeks, however, so that Dr. Willett and Dr. Harre can be sure everything is progressing on schedule.
How does the Lincoln Invisalign system work?
The Invisalign system is pretty straightforward. You will wear each aligner for about two weeks, and should only take them off to eat, drink, brush, or floss. Your teeth will be move gradually as the aligners are replaced with the next one in the series until they reach their final desired positions.
During visits with Lincoln Orthodontics, we will check to make sure treatment is sticking to the plan we’ve made. You must change the aligners on time and wear them as directed. This is the most important thing to stay on top of if you want your Lincoln Invisalign treatment to be successful. Your trays will be custom designed to fit your unique dental needs. They will need to be changed frequently in order to keep up with the shifting of the teeth as they begin to straighten. Not changing aligners as scheduled or skipping your appointments can quickly undo any progress that’s been made.
It’s important to remember that every patient will respond to orthodontic treatment differently. Invisalign works in a slightly different and less invasive way than braces to straighten the teeth. This means it can be hard to say with certainty how long a patient will need to wear them before seeing results. Though the average tends to be somewhere between 6 and 18 months, this can vary widely from case to case. Treatment time depends significantly on patient compliance.
The average treatment time is estimated based on patients following the recommended guidelines. This means wearing aligners for at least 20-22 hours every single day, throughout the course of treatment. Any small deviation from this can add extra time to the overall process. Invisalign can only work if patients stick to the program.
