What Do Braces Cost?

At Lincoln Orthodontics, we get asked this question on a regular basis. There’s no straightforward answer to this before a free consult, because each patient’s orthodontic needs are different. The cost of orthodontic treatment is different based on the individual treatment needs, timeline, or difficulty. When we are determining the cost of treatment, some of the things we consider are:

  • The orthodontic problems that need corrected
  • How long braces will be needed
  • The main treatment goals
  • If the patient has dental insurance and whether it covers orthodontics
  • Coordination between our office and your dentist’s office for special or complex cases
  • Patients with unique braces-related bite correction appliances needed (ie, Forsus, Herbst, or similar lab-fabricated products)
  • Filing orthodontic insurance for the patient

What doesn’t matter when given the cost estimate:

  • The type of braces (metal or clear) – we want you to love your smile even while wearing braces
  • Braces versus Invisalign aligners – we want you to chose the treatment option that will fit your lifestyle best

No Surprises, What’s Included in the Cost?

People choose us because there are no surprises or hidden fees. Dr. Willett outlines everything before ever beginning the active phase of a patient’s orthodontic process. Cost for individualized treatment plans include everything needed for beautiful results that last, from beginning to end:

  • All appointments (including emergency visits)
  • Braces or aligners, wires, colored, ties, elastics
  • First set of retainers (bonded, if appropriate, and removable)
  • Planned post-treatment follow-up visits
  • Oral hygiene starter pack: two toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss threaders, floss, timer

Our fees reflect our team’s expert skills, the quality of our products, and the top-notch service we provide. Cost of Braces for the Average Lincoln Orthodontics Patient

The cost of braces treatment isn’t a one-size-fits-all. At Lincoln Orthodontics, a general range of cost for a child to get braces can be anywhere from $1,000 to $2,500 for a first phase of treatment, and may be $2,000 to $6,000 before insurance discounts for full or comprehensive treatment. Adult treatment can also be simple and could range between $1000 to $2,500, but if the treatment is more complex or takes longer, then it could be as much as $6,000. The total cost will ultimately depend on the patients needs and any other factors mentioned above.

Can Dental Insurance Be Used For Orthodontic Treatment?

At Lincoln Orthodontics, our team is highly experienced with insurance plans and the policies that come with them. We understand that they can be overwhelming and confusing, which is why we do our very best to help our patients understand what their insurance covers and what it doesn’t.

When you are given treatment at our office, Dr. Willett will determine your treatment plan based on what is best for you and your dental needs. She will not base it off of insurance and what it will or will not cover, but her team will answer questions and help you navigate insurance.

Before a patient sees Dr. Willett for a consultation and receives a diagnosis and treatment plan, we suggest patients check with their dental insurance provider to learn if there are policy limits for orthodontic treatment. Plan to bring your insurance information with you to your consultation, so that we can review what your plan covers while you are here in the office.

As a courtesy to our patients, our team will complete and provide you with all insurance claims forms.

Can Braces Treatment Be Tax Deducted?

The dental health care costs associated with braces may be tax-deductible when paying with a FSA or HSA card. Your card can be used as payment and Lincoln Orthodontics will provide any requested documentation or receipts for your filing purposes. You may need to work with your benefits councilor or your tax professional to help you navigate this option.

Will Medicaid Cover The Cost of Braces?

If you have state insurance and your treatment needs fit the insurance company’s categories for medical necessity, Medicaid may cover your treatment costs. Dr. Willett accepts a limited number of Medicaid/MCNA/state insurance patients and will treat those patients with the same care and level of expertise the practice is To learn more about this possibility, visit the Medicaid website to learn about the percentage of coverage and the lifetime maximum before proceeding with treatment.
