Metal Braces FAQ
How long will I have my braces on?
This is the golden question and the answers tend to vary. Every mouth is different, and every patient responds to treatment in their own way. The average time spent in metal braces is around 18 months, but could be shorter or longer, depending on the treatment goals.
What’s different with newer metal braces?
Metal braces have had a reputation for being awkward and bulky, but our team offers a much more modern approach that allows for a smaller and more comfortable version. Sleeker brackets and lighter wires improve the appearance and feel of these braces while causing less irritation overall.
Do I get to pick what color bands I get?
YES! We offer a wide variety of colored elastics that let you showcase your personality whenever you want.
Why choose metal braces when there are so many other options?
Metal braces are the traditional approach for treatment and have been around for a long time! They are durable, long-lasting, and have years of proven success to back them up.
Who are metal braces the best choice for?
Metal Braces are great for any patients looking for a traditional treatment plan. We have also found that children are great candidates for metal braces, because of the brackets durability and long-lasting qualities.
Clear Ceramic Braces FAQ
Are clear braces okay for kids?
Yes, but it can be more difficult to see plaque accumulation, so we generally recommend clear braces for our “excellent brushes” only. From past experience, we believe that ceramic braces are generally better suited to adults and older teens. You can schedule a free consultation with us to learn if they may be right for you.
Do clear braces cost more than metal braces?
Not at Lincoln Orthodontics! In our office, ceramic braces cost the same as metal braces. We want your decision to be based on what you need and not the cost.
Do clear braces stain?
Ceramic brackets are designed to avoid discoloration, but the bands can stain, so we make sure they are replaced at each visit.
Are clear braces as durable as metal braces?
Metal braces are known for their durability and strength. While ceramic braces are also tough, they are made from a different, more fragile material. Our really active teens and athletes are often better suited for metal braces in case their mouthguard isn’t properly fit.
What is the benefit of ceramic braces?
The main benefit of ceramic braces is their clear, almost invisible appearance. Patients who want a more aesthetic-looking treatment, typically love this option for braces.
Who are ceramic braces a good option for?
In our office we believe ceramic braces are a great option for anyone looking for a more subtle treatment option. In most cases, adults make the best can the best candidate for this type of braces. Ceramic braces are slightly less durable compared to metal braces and adults typically are more cautious with eating hard food or candy.
InBrace® FAQ
Will InBrace® work as well as traditional braces?
YES! InBrace does everything traditional braces can do without the hassle.
Does InBrace® take longer to work than traditional braces?
No. Normal treatment length for InBrace patients ranges from 6-18 months while treatment length for patients with traditional braces can range from 18-22 months.
What is InBrace® and who should use it?
The InBrace treatment uses a Smartwire® which is applied by Dr. Emily Willett to the back of your teeth, so the entire process is truly hidden. This option is great for patients who don’t want anything covering their teeth, but still want the benefits of a new and stunning smile.

Dr. Willet typically introduces Invisalign as a treatment option to kids ages 6 and up. At these growing ages, Invisalign can help with crowding, spacing, and narrow dental arches. This is a new treatment that lays the foundation to better a child’s smile as they grow with smaller phases.
How does Invisalign® work with a child’s baby teeth?
In young kids, with a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth, Dr. Willett’s Phase 1 treatment develops young jaws to create the space necessary for your teeth. This treatment plan helps us predict results and create future treatment plans to address the needs of progressing children.

How soon should we see an orthodontist?
It is recommended that children see an orthodontist by the age of 7. This allows Dr. Willett and our team to Monitor children’s teeth regularly to determine the proper timing and need for future orthodontic treatments, track the eruption patterns of permanent teeth, make sure the roots of baby teeth are being resorbed, and monitor the growth of both jaws.

These flexible options include, No-interest financing with affordable monthly payments, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover accepted, Automatic monthly payments scheduled for your convenience, and Third-party financing through Care Credit.
Do you have financing for orthodontic treatment?
For all patients we offer a Third-party Financing through Care Credit to make payments for treatment more convenient for you.
How much do braces cost?
The cost of braces will vary depending on your individual treatment plan decided by Dr. Willett, based on the treatment goals, complexity of movements, and other individualized factors. We do offer our Metal and Ceramic braces at the same cost so patients can make the best choice for their personal wants.
How much does Invisalign cost compared to traditional or ceramic braces?
Every patient’s needs are different and there are many factors that determine the cost of Invisalign treatment. At Lincoln Orthodontics Invisalign is comparable in cost to traditional braces and may be covered by dental insurance plans. Financing options are also available to make Invisalign work for your family.

Retainers and Mouthguards FAQ
I recently moved here and my retainer broke, can you fix it?
Yes, We can fix it! We understand that complications arise with retainers and we love welcoming anyone into our office. Just schedule an appointment and we would love to chat and take a look at your retainer to see how we can help you!
I need a mouthguard for my braces, do you make them?
At Lincoln Orthodontics, we offer customized mouthguards made out of a high-grade silicone. These mouthguards are designed with extra cushion and made for comfort.
Where can I get a mouthguard for my braces?
In our office we make high-quality customized mouthguards for patients with braces. We also offer a few options of over-the-counter mouthguards from quality brands that we trust. These options are offered at a lower cost than our customized mouthguards, for patients needing a cheaper option.
Do I need to wear a mouthguard for sports if I have braces?
We do recommend that patients with braces wear a mouthguard while participating in sports or any physical activity. Mouthguards prevent any damage to gums, lips, or brackets if contact is made with the mouth.
